How has the year gone? As a team, have you reached your goals and contributed to the organization’s strategic objectives? And, as a leader, have you been effective enough in supporting this?
“As a leader, you cannot separate yourself from your unit. Your success as a leader largely depends on the success of your unit. It is therefore important that, as a leader, you consider not only how you personally measure up against the organization’s strategic goals, but also how your unit has contributed. Among other things, you need to reflect on whether you have been effective in communicating the organization’s goals to your team,” explains Hafdis Thorsteinsdottir, CfL’s Relations Manager.
As part of your preparation, it is also important to consider where you need to develop so that you can continue to support the company’s strategic goals in the future—both personally and through your team. You should also assess whether your current competencies are still sufficient.
“You need to clarify which aspects of your leadership you need to develop. It might be that you need to enhance your skills in personnel management or that you need to sharpen your strategic perspective and understanding,” adds Hafdis Thorsteinsdottir.
“A good idea would be to have a conversation with a course provider to help clarify and find the right leadership development program. The course or program you initially think of might not be the right one. Make sure to align the content of the program with your expectations, goals, and current competencies,” concludes Hafdis Thorsteinsdottir.
